California accident attorneys alert- 2 San Francisco Municipal Railway streetcars hit a Nissan Pathfinder sport utility vehicle.
San Francisco, CA—A collision involving a sport utility vehicle (SUV) and two San Francisco Municipal Railway F-market streetcars left six people injured. The crash occurred on Monday, August 3, 2009 at 5:45 p.m. at Market and Noe streets, as reported by The Mercury News.
According to witnesses, the crash appeared to have happened when a Muni streetcar hit a Nissan Pathfinder and then pushed the SUV into another streetcar in front of it. The crash resulted in the SUV being sandwiched in between the two streetcars. According to a passenger on board the rear streetcar, which initially hit the SUV, it appeared the operator of the railway car was talking to a passenger right before the accident occurred. The driver of the Pathfinder and the streetcar operator were both transported by emergency medical service (EMS) crews to an area hospital for treatment of their injuries. Three injured people received treatment for their injuries at the scene of the wreck and were released. A fourth person reportedly declined treatment by EMS personnel. Reports indicated the injuries were not life threatening. San Francisco area police are reportedly conducting a full investigation.
This is the fourth accident this year surrounding the San Francisco Municipal Railways. In July, two light-rail trains slammed into each other at the boarding platform located at the West Portal Station, which left 44 people injured. In March, a Muni train collided with a tractor-trailer truck at the intersection of 22nd and Third streets in San Francisco. Multiple people reportedly suffered injuries in the collision. In addition, in February the N-Judah train stuck an Oakland Tribune reporter, William Brand, while he was walking near Second and King streets. The reporter tragically died from his injuries sustained in the accident.
